Jefferson Davis Parish Jail Overview
The Jefferson Davis Parish Consolidated Jail is the main local detention facility for Jefferson Davis Parish. Official sources also list it as the Jefferson Davis Correctional Center. The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office corrections page places the consolidated jail at 1704 Hwy. 90 West, also known as Shankland Avenue, in Jennings. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections parish directory lists Jefferson Davis Correctional Center with a 321 East Plaquemine, Jennings, LA 70546 address and the same jail phone. Treat the highway address as the public jail location and the state directory listing as an official alternate address reference.
The facility is a county/parish jail, not a state prison. It holds people arrested in Jefferson Davis Parish, pretrial detainees, sentenced parish inmates, and people with local warrants or holds. City arrests from Jennings, Welsh, Lake Arthur, Elton, Fenton, and surrounding parish areas should generally route through the sheriff's jail after booking unless an official source says another agency holds the person.
The sheriff's corrections material says the consolidated jail was completed in 2019 and replaced a jail built in 1964. Jailers book people in and out, take fingerprints, take booking photos, complete paperwork, place inmates into population, serve meals, dispense prescribed medication, and make rounds during each 12-hour shift. The Commander of Corrections acts as warden locally, and the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association directory names William "Freddie" Powell as Parish Prison Warden.
The sheriff's corrections screenshot in the manifest directly matches this facility subject. The source is the official JDPSO corrections page.
The page matters because it is the local source for jail history, booking duties, bond hours, commissary, mail, and inmate phone rules.
Jefferson Davis Jail Capacity and Count
Official sources did not publish a current rated capacity for the 2019 consolidated jail. The sheriff's corrections page does give the older comparison point: the former 1964 jail held 62 inmates. The current roster heading inspected on June 16, 2026 showed "Inmate Roster (153)," which is a point-in-time public roster count, not an average daily population and not a certified bed capacity. The same research found over 30 jail deputies and support staff listed by the sheriff's corrections page.
Those two figures should not be read as a formal overcrowding calculation. The old 62-inmate capacity belongs to the former jail, while the 153 count belongs to the current online roster in the newer consolidated facility. Local demographic totals, race and ethnicity totals, felony and misdemeanor splits, and pretrial versus sentenced counts were not found in the inspected local jail pages.
Look Up Jefferson Davis Jail Inmates
The correct first stop for a Jefferson Davis Parish Consolidated Jail inmate lookup is the official JDPSO roster gateway. That page sends users to current inmates at the detention center or to the 48-hour release route for people recently released. The roster disclaimer says the jail cannot certify the accuracy or authenticity of the information and that roster inclusion is not a finding of guilt. A booking entry is a custody record. It is not a conviction record.
- Open the official roster gateway and choose Current Inmates for people believed to still be in Jefferson Davis Parish jail custody.
- Use Search By Name, or use Show All and the sort controls if the spelling is uncertain.
- Check the list entry for the name, booking number, age, booking date, charges, bond, mugshot image, and profile button.
- Use the 48 Hour Release route when the person may have left the jail within the last 48 hours.
- Call the jail/prison phone at 337-821-2104 or the 24-hour non-emergency line at 337-821-2100 when the roster result is missing, stale, or unclear.
Use a public-records request if the roster no longer shows the person and the 48-hour release list has expired. The sheriff's site did not expose a dedicated records-request form in the inspected pages. Louisiana Public Records Law routes those requests to the record custodian, so provide the person's name, booking number if known, booking date, and the exact record sought. The crime-tip form is not a records request channel.

No official in-person or video visitation schedule was located on the sheriff pages inspected. Do not rely on copied schedules from third-party jail sites. Jefferson Davis Jail Mail and Money
Jefferson Davis Parish personal inmate mail is handled through City Tele Coin scanning, not by direct physical delivery to inmates. The sheriff's corrections page says the mail procedure changed effective July 22, 2024. Mail is processed at a Bossier City address and uploaded to the inmate profile within 24 hours of receipt. Physical mail other than legal mail is not delivered to inmates.

Jefferson Davis Jail Booking and Bond
Booking at the Jefferson Davis Parish Consolidated Jail starts after an arresting agency brings the person to the jail. Jailers handle fingerprinting, booking photos, paperwork, and population placement. Once the booking record is ready for public posting, the person may appear on the roster with a booking number, age, booking date, charges, bond, mugshot thumbnail, and profile link.
The sheriff's corrections page says jailers make sure inmates can see a judge within 72 hours of arrest. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure art. 230.1 also requires prompt appearance before a judge, and in any case within 72 hours, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays for that time calculation. Bonds are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and the sheriff page states all bonds have a $30 paperwork fee. Property bonds may require more fees that were not listed.
A roster bond amount does not always mean a person can be released by paying that amount. Another warrant, contempt order, probation or parole hold, federal hold, ICE detainer, or court order may control the release decision. Confirm by phone before sending money, traveling to the jail, or contacting a bondsman.
Jefferson Davis Jail Transfers
The Jefferson Davis Parish roster covers local jail custody. It can drop a person after release, transfer, or movement to another custody level. For sentenced state custody, use Louisiana VINE / VINELink and Louisiana DPS&C channels. The LCLE LA VINE roster information found in the research says live rosters update every 30 minutes where deployed and that Jefferson Davis Parish is a roster participant.
Federal and immigration custody are separate. No BOP prison and no ICE detention facility were found in Jefferson Davis Parish. People in federal Bureau of Prisons custody are searched through the BOP Inmate Locator. Immigration detainees are searched through ICE Online Detainee Locator System. Check the county jail, state VINE route, and federal or ICE locators based on the case history.
Note: Confirm custody, visit status, and release barriers with the jail before travel or payment.
